Juvenile Says He Will Retire on Cash Money Records to Be a CEO

Amidst all the Birdman/Lil Wayne/Tyga drama, Juvenile—who has had his own troubles with Baby and Slim in the past—signed back to Cash Money Records last October, nearly a decade after he last put out a project on the label. Back in the late 1990s and early 2000s Juve was one of Birdman’s biggest artists, with his breakout solo LP 400 Degreez going four times Platinum after its 1998 release. Juve left the label in 2001 after contractual disputes, returned briefly to record another Platinum LP, Juve The Great (and the massive hit "Slow Motion" with Soulja Slim) and then left again in 2005. But now he's back for the third time and the NOLA native's full attention is on his Mardi Gras II mixtape, his UTP crew and making good music.

Since his signing, Juvenile has been releasing heat. The first offering was his Drake collaboration, “Sho Me Love," a loose cut to get fans salivating again. He followed up that with "My Nina" featuring Keem 0017, "Can't Keep Hanging On" featuring Skip And Lil Cali and "Stranger." While he was up north in New York City, Juve The Great stopped by XXL to discuss forming a new group with Skip and Lil Cali, his mixtape Mardi Gras II, making music with his son and why his career is similar to that of Minnesota Timberwolves forward Kevin Garnett. —Emmanuel C.M.
