Happy 37th birthday to Houston, Texas' own, Paul Wall!

Born Paul Slayton in 1980, Wall heavily got into hip-hop during his college days at University of Houston. Wall was apart of the indepedent Houston label, Swishahouse. Thanks to collabs with label mate Chamillionaire and their independently produced album, 2002's Get Ya Mind Correct, which sold over 200,000 copies, Houston sound became mainstream. With ever growing popularity, Paul Wall dropped his first solo album, The Peoples Champ, in 2005. The album debuted at number one on the Billboard 200. In 2007, Paul's assistance on Nelly's smash single, "Grillz" was nominated for a 2007 Grammy in the category of "Best Rap Performance as a Duo or Group" but unfortunately, they lost out to Chamillionaire and Krayzie Bone's "Ridin.'"

Paul has enjoyed prolonged success as a rapper thanks to making all the right professional choices. Paul has worked closely with Slim Thug and dropped five studio albums, the most recent being The Po-Up Poet in 2014 and slab god in 2015. Paul has also made positive personal choices concerning his health, getting gastric sleeve surgery in 2010 and losing an incredible amount of weight.

Paul Wall also has his own strain of weed, Satellite OG, which has since launched into a full-fledged business, which includes a clothing line. In 2017, Paul Wall was heavily involved in community efforts. When Hurricane Harvey swept through Texas, Paul planned several hurricane relief events and took donations for the victims.
