Today, March 19, is the 45th birthday of rapper and UGK member Bun B. First bursting onto the rap scene in the 1980's with partner in rhyme Pimp C, UGK eventually grew into the rulers of southern hip-hop, all the while dominating the Houston rap scene.

However, with UGK member Pimp C’s untimely death in 2007, Bun B has carried on the group's legacy still releasing the duo's iconic sounds through his solo work on the Trill series. Bun B dropped his first in the series in 2005 with Trill, 2008 with II Trill, 2010's Trill OG and most recently Trill OG: The Epilogue in 2013. Bun B also released Bun B's Rap Coloring Book, filled with images of contemporary rap stars.

Bun is also an extremely dedicated youth activist, receiving his own holiday in Houston because of his limitless contributions and has started to diversify his contributions into academia. Bun has been a guest professor at Rice University and very active during the last U.S. presidential election. He has also used his stature to help out Hurricane Harvey and Hurricane Irma victims.

Happy Birthday to the godfather of hip-hop, Bun B!
