Editor’s Note: This story originally appeared as 'Bun B Says the Posthumous Pimp C Project Will Be an EP' but a rap from Mass Appeal Records confirmed to XXL that the project will be a LP not an EP

Pimp C's solo career remains as one of the biggest "What If?"s in hip-hop history, with just two solo LPs to his name before his untimely death at the end of 2007. Of those two albums, the first, Sweet James Jones Stories, was released by Rap-A-Lot Records while the Pimp was locked up in 2005 and he was none too happy about the release, which he considered unfinished freestyles. While he was able to release Pimpalation in mid-2006, his death prevented a real run for the Texas MC and though his legacy as one half of UGK alongside Bun B remains firmly intact, Pimp C never really broke out as a solo artist.

Recently, Nas' Mass Appeal Records announced that they would be putting together a posthumous album with Pimp C's wife, Chinara Butler, which would feature the likes of A$AP Rocky, Lil Wayne, Chris Brown, Wiz Khalifa, Rick Ross, E-40, Mike WiLL Made It, Juicy J and Warren G, among others. Not much is known about the album outside of what Butler said in a statement released last October, but Bun B stopped by the XXL offices last week and dished on the project, as well as his own compilation LP and a new upcoming solo album in the works. When it comes to UGK, it always pays to keep it trill. —Emmanuel C.M.

XXL: Is the Pimp C Mass Appeal posthumous album still happening?
Bun B: It is happening. I’m not the person that's putting it together. It’s actually his wife, Chinara, that’s putting it together. She and Juicy J are the ones that are putting the project together. I’m consulting them. They come by me and just ask, "Do you think this is right?" But for the most part I’m not involved with the day-to-day aspects of the album. The album is a real project. I think it’s an EP though, not an album. But it’s a very real project and is coming along very well.

Where are they getting the songs?
She was very lucky in the fact that Pimp C was a very prolific writer and recorder. He spent the majority of his time, waking hours, in the studio. So there was work available for her. There were songs released that she was able to gather and songs he’s done with other artists that weren’t released that came back to the estate.

What are you doing for 2015?
I’m working on a compilation album right now called Back To The Basics; it’s going to be on 2 Trill Entertainment/2 Trill West. It’s me and my think tank, so to speak, are putting something together. I’m working on a solo album as well that will come out after my compilation album. So I’m still doing my day job.

What can fans expect from both those projects?
The Truth. The truth is undeniable. I’m just going to tell it like I see it. I’m not trying to fit in with what’s going on right now. That’s not my job, that’s not what people want to hear from me. People don’t necessarily need me on a Mike WiLL beat featuring Migos, you know what I’m saying? Not saying there is anything wrong with that, just saying there is a place and a time for that. It’s not necessarily on my album. People come to me looking for a particular sound and feel. So I’m just trying to work and make sure I give them that. But the truth resonate regardless.
