We're some 15 years into the Willennium, and while it's been a tumultuous time for the world--9/11, perpetual war in the Middle East, the Goodie Mob comeback album--some things remain bright spots. Last night (Feb. 18), Will Smith appeared on The Late Show With David Letterman, where he stepped out from backstage and launched right into an impromptu performance of his massive 1998 hit, "Gettin' Jiggy Wit It." Though he hasn't released an album since 2005's Lost and Found, Smith has of late hinted that he might like to return to hip-hop, even reportedly holding studio sessions with Kanye West. If last night's performance is any indication, he still has the magnetic qualities that made him a reliable hitmaker two decades ago.

Long rumored to have written the song for Smith, Nas took to web content aggregator site Reddit last year to dispel those rumors. "Alright, let's clear this up once and for all," the Illmatic rapper wrote. "I hung out with Will in the studio. And watched him write it. It was a fun studio session, and I said a line or two or three to him. It wasn't that serious. Will Smith wrote that song. But seriously, I watched him have fun making that record on his own, and Will is a true MC."
