Today In Hip-Hop: Kriss Kross Drop Their Debut Single “Jump”

On this day, Feb 6th, in hip-hop history…

1992: Preteen hip-hop duo Kriss Kross broke out in a big way when they dropped their debut single "Jump" on Feb. 6, 1992. As the lead single from their first album Totally Krossed Out, Chris "Mac Daddy" Kelly and Chris "Daddy Mac" Smith were only 12 and 13 years old when they recorded the infectious, Jermaine Dupri-produced hit.

"Jump" spent a comfortable eight weeks at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1992 and was certified double platinum. Fueled by the chart topping single, Totally Krossed Out sold four million copies. Although they were never able to recapture the radio magic of "Jump," the pint-sized team put out two more albums as they matured, Da Bomb (1993) and Young, Rich and Dangerous (1996), before going silent in the new millennium.

The duo recently linked back up in 2013 and announced they were getting back together. Unfortunately, before the reunion could come full circle, Chris Kelly died of a drug overdose in May 2013.
