King Louie Credits Drake for Putting His Career on a Bigger Platform

Last week, hip-hop artists from all over the country made their way to New York City to be a part of the NBA All-Star Weekend festivities. One of those artists in town was King Louie, who was part of the All-Star lineup of MC's during a recent Smooth Magazine All-Star Takeover.

The Chicago rapper has been in the news as of late due to his Drake-inspired tattoos that have suggested—rumors that he himself has helped fuel—that he's a part of Drizzy's OVO crew. King L's OVO owl and the Drake-created "6 God" praying hands tattoos around the surface of his ear have kept people curious and waiting for a possible announcement, though he's kept things under wraps for now. Besides the rumors, Louie has kept busy in the studio putting the final touches on his forthcoming project, Drilluminati 3: God Of Drill, set to drop some time next month.

XXL caught up with King Louie during his recent visit to New York and asked him about his tattoos, the Chicago movement and his upcoming project. —Roger Krastz

XXL: Why did you get a Drake-inspired tattoo on your neck? Are you signed to OVO?
King Louie: Shit... If you know where I’m from you know what the 6 is. And all me and mines is Gods—you know, 6 Gods.

Any advice that Drake has given you?
He never really gave any advice, but our relationship is dope. He kind of put me on the platform and helped.

What are your thoughts on Drake’s latest mixtape?
Shit, the mixtape to me is an album. As soon as it came out I bought it on iTunes. I think it's dope as hell. Shoutout woe, they know who woe is, but yeah, Drake just did something nice for me and showed a muthafucka love. So that was 100. And he told me he was going to do it, so Drake kept his word with me.

So we’ll be hearing something new with you and Drake down the line?
Hopefully, if that’s in God's plans.

What should we expect from you music-wise?
I’m working on a new project, Drilluminati 3: God of Drill. That’s coming probably some time next month. So that’s what I'm working on.

Your city has been in the forefront of hip-hop these latest few years. How does that feel as a native of the Windy City?
I feel good about it. We're known for success and more success than negativity. The media try to tell you about all the negative stuff thats going on in the city but theres a lot of great and successful things going on. A lot of the younger youth in Chicago being successful in the music and in any art. So I feel good as a native of Chicago. My city influenced the country.
