Rap-A-Lot CEO J. Prince Defends Drake, Disses Diddy in New Record

It appears as if the Drake-Diddy feud is luring in some interesting new players. The beef came to a head last December during Art Basel in Miami, when Diddy allegedly sent Drake to the hospital following a confrontation outside a nightclub. Now, Aubrey’s one-time mentor, J. Prince, has gotten in on the action, dropping a spoken-word diss track that has been obtained by TMZ.

Famous as the CEO of Houston’s Rap-A-Lot Records, Prince has long been involved in Drake’s career. His son, Jas Prince, had a hand in discovering the Toronto rapper, and was instrumental in securing the connections necessary to complete his breakthrough mixtape, 2009’s So Far Gone. However, in 2012, a lawsuit was filed on behalf of the Princes against Drake’s management, alleging that the former was entitled to compensation and royalties from launching his career.

But on his new song, which he calls a “Courtesy Call,” there is to be no mistaking where his loyalties lie. Prince warns that Diddy’s actions “open the doors for his family to be touched,” adding the weighted “You reap what you sow.” Prince takes aim at not only Diddy, but Lil Wayne as well (and his lawyer, and his manager, and on and on and on.) Additionally, he demands that Baby and Slim pay him money he’s owed–most likely a reference to that same lawsuit.

The altercation between Diddy and Drake in Miami has never been linked conclusively to a single incident that night, but tension had been brewing between the two Forbes fixtures. At a concert earlier in 2014, Diddy alleged that Drake had stolen from him the beat for “0-100.”
