The second coming of D'Angelo is here. It is still almost hard to believe. The Virginia crooner who ended his 14-year hiatus last December with his new album Black Messiah was the special music guest on last night's episode of Saturday Night Live. Dressed in outfit similar to a mariachi player, D, backed by his band The Vanguard, performed the new tracks "Really Love" and "The Charade." The talented entertainer doesn't look like he's lost a step in his absence as he softly rips through the sultry ballads like it's 1999.

D'Angelo's album Black Messiah seemed to come out of nowhere when it dropped on very short notice in December. After nearly a decade and a half away from the game, fans weren't sure what to expect. But the LP has been acclaimed by both critics, fans and fellow music makers. According to D, the album's rollout was rushed to coincide with police brutality protest which were sweeping the nation at the time due to the killings of Mike Brown, Eric Garner and others at the hands of police officers. “The only way I do speak out is through music,” the singer said.

Later this week, D'Angelo will make his first ever headlining appearance at the famed Apollo Theater on Feb. 7. Shortly after his Apollo performance D’Angelo will kick off the European leg of his Second Coming Tour which starts Feb. 11 in Switzerland.

Watch D'Angelo perform "Really Love," above, and "The Charade" after the jump.
