With the success of past scripted drama programming like 2013's CrazySexyCool: The TLC Story and 2014's Drumline: A New Beat, VH1 is gearing up to release another TV movie in 2015. Tentatively titled The Breaks, the script is based on the best-selling, Dan Charnas-penned book, The Big Payback: The History of the Business of Hip-Hop. According to VH1, the film will be set in the 1990's New York City and will follow the lives of Nikki, David and Deevee, three friends chasing their dreams to make it in the music business.

"The Breaks has the hallmark of a successful VH1 film: a strong, authentic storyline that celebrates a musical moment," said Susan Levison, EVP, Original Programming and Production, VH1. "The story covers a seminal time when some thought Hip-Hop was a passing fad--The Breaks will show how it became an enduring force. We can't wait to share it with our viewers."

Along with Chanras, Seth Mann (The Wire, The Walking Dead, and Elementary) will write the script and direct. If successful, VH1 has the option to turn the movie into a series.
