Lil B survived a fire that ripped through his California apartment thanks to the quick thinking of his 15-year-old neighbor. According to the Contra Cost Times, a 2-alarm blaze ravaged the rappers two-story duplex Thursday (Jan. 15) morning around 6:40 am. His neighbor, Mateo Ysmael, was awakened to the smell of smoke and the sight of flames coming through the wall. He immediately alerted his stepmother. After they safely exited, the teen ran and banged on the door of Lil B who had no idea about the blaze. "I'm grateful to be alive," B, born, Brandon McCart, told the paper. "If that kid didn't come knocking on my door ..."

According to B, he had minimal losses with some costumes and music being damaged by the fire. "I've got to thank the Contra Costa Fire folks for doing such an amazing job keeping it contained," he said. "They were extraordinary. It could've been so much worse than it was. Like I said, I'm grateful to be alive."

An electrical problem in the unit is the suspected cause of the fire.
