Today, Jan. 30, marks the 34th birthday of the immensely talented rapper, singer and songwriter, Kid Cudi.

Kid Cudi been on a steady rise to the leagues of rap immortality ever since he first came out and is still climbing. Born Scott Mescudi in Cleveland, Ohio, the Kid moved to Brooklyn to pursue the rap game full time after high school. Cudi easily gained the ear of one of hip-hop's biggest stars, Kanye West, after dropping his debut mixtape, A Kid Named Cudi, in 2008, and was signed to 'Ye's label, G.O.O.D Music, the same year.

A Kid Name Cudi gave way to the massive radio single, "Day 'n' Night," which made the Billboard Hot 100 and Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs charts. His moody, contemplative debut album, 2009's Man on the Moon: End of Day was certified gold by RIAA and his followup, Man on the Moon II: The Legend of Mr. Rager followed suit. After his third album, Indicud, the man from the moon parted ways with G.O.O.D Music and started to take his sound in a new direction.

Along the way, Cudi has started his own rock band and record label, and has expanded his artistic scope to include acting. Cudi has appeared on shows like One Tree Hill, How to Make it in America, Need for Speed and the indie film James White.

Cudder scared his fans in late 2016, when he announced he had checked himself into rehab for depression. After spending a little over two weeks in treatment, Cudi re-emerged in November to thank fans for support and to specifically shout out fellow rappers like Travis Scott and A$AP Rocky for reaching out to him when he was down. Cudi dropped his sixth studio album Passion, Pain and Demon Slayin' in December of 2016.

In 2017, the "Day 'n' Night" artist reunited with his friend/mentor Kanye West, bringing him out as a guest in Chicago and announcing that they'd be collaborating on new music. In June of 2018, the duo put out their joint album, Kids See Ghosts, as part of 'Ye's extended roll-out of new projects for a number of artists on the G.O.O.D. Music roster.

Most recently, the Passion, Pain & Demon Slayin' artist posted a mysterious video that introduces the world to the Asterisk Collective, a group who Cudi says are "uniting to showcase the power of creativity."

At this point in his career, Cudi is at the forefront of the movement to raise awareness for both mental health issues and addiction, and continues to be one of the most influential creators the game has ever seen.

Happy birthday, Kid Cudi!
