Philadelphia rapper Cool C was granted a second stay of execution after previously being scheduled to be executed tomorrow (Jan. 8).

Cool C, born Christopher Douglas Roney, was sentenced to death for the murder of police officer Lauretha Vaird during a 1996 bank robbery. Roney's accomplices, including rhyming partner Warren McGlone (known as Steady B), were sentenced to life in prison, but Roney's responsibility for Vaird's death landed him on death row.

Despite widespread reports that Roney's execution was going ahead as planned, NBC Philadelphia reports that the stay of execution was, in fact, granted by Philadelphia District Court Judge L. Felipe Restrepo in December 2014.

Roney was part of the Philadelphia rap scene as a member of rap group C.E.B., whose 1993 song "Get the Point" briefly landed the group at No. 5 on Billboard's Hot Rap Singles chart.

Roney was originally scheduled to be executed in 2006, but was granted a stay of execution. Pennsylvania hasn't executed an inmate since July 1999.
