We too often think of gangsta rap as unfiltered id, a gun-toting articulation of our basest elements. In truth, the sub-genre is one cautionary tale writ large; Only Built 4 Cuban Linx... is irresistible, but the crack peddling described therein shouldn't be.

But Jeezy always represented a different approach. When his name still had a prefix, the Atlantan approached gangsta rap as life plan. Let's Get It: Thug Motivation 101 was a step-by-step guide to get yourself on track, whether in the trap or in middle management. So it's not surprising that, nearly ten years after his debut, Jeezy is still approaching things in a thoughtful, thorough manner.

Sitting for an interview with CivilTV, Jeezy expressed how deeply troubling the last four months in Ferguson, Mo. have been. "What do you tell the mother of that family?" he asks. "'You just lost your son?' That's it? There shouldn't be no free kills."

"There used to be respect," added Jeezy, stressing the need for accountability. "If you do a crime, you do the time. If [white police officers] do a crime, they ain't doing no time[...]Look at George Zimmerman. He wasn't a police officer, but he got off, then he started to slowly unravel."

Jeezy also promised his collaboration with T.I. will arrive as soon as the two have time to complete it, calling it a "best of both hoods" project. He also hinted at a new solo record on the horizon.
