Today, Dec. 10, is the 39th birthday of Los Angeles, CA rapper Glasses Malone.

Born Charles Phillip Ivory Penniman, Glasses Malone was raised in both the Compton and Watts sections of L.A. The West Coast rapper has been in the game for more than 15 years, and released a total of seven mixtapes before finally dropping his debut full-length album, Beach Cruiser, in August of 2011 following five years worth of delays. The album was originally supposed to be released in 2006.

When the time came to ink a deal prior to dropping his solo debut, many labels were interested, but Malone decided to sign with Cash Money Records in 2011, releasing the long-awaited Beach Cruiser album that same year. The LP debuted at number 165 on the Billboard 200 chart and featured notable appearances from artists like Nipsey Hussle, Snoop Dogg, Jay Rock, Mack 10 and Rick Ross.

After putting out a few solo mixtapes over the next four years, and a collaborative project, Money Music, with fellow West Coast MC Mack 10, Malone followed up with his next studio album, Glass House 2: Life Aint Nuthin Butin July of 2015. The project had contributions from some of the game's heavy hitters, including B.o.B., Ty Dolla $ign, Tyga and most notably, Kendrick Lamar, who was featured on the thought-provoking track, "Thuggin'."

Malone is known for being vocal on social issues, and has been on record speaking about major subjects such as the controversy surrounding former LA Clippers' owner Donald Sterling and the infamous Ray Rice incident.

Throughout the past couple of years, Glasses Malone has been featured on tracks along side many up-and-coming MCs like Pittsburgh's J-Haze.

Happy Birthday Glasses Malone!
