If you missed the saga of Your Old Droog's identity crisis--a war that played out in comment sections and knowing whispers--fear not. Your Old Droog is not Nas. A sold-out show at New York's Webster Hall finally dispelled those rumors, and the Brooklyn emcee has since released multiple videos, his face unobscured. The question is, then, if he still has your attention.

With his Your Old Droog LP finally available for wide release, he makes a strong case. Comprised of the self-titled EP he released earlier this year and eight new songs, it's a sharp, well-paced record that reveals a dexterous MC with a nose for period-appropriate details. That period, of course, is one long gone. But Droog breathes life into the form, keeping his disdain for wack rappers squarely in the present tense.

Despite all the early-'90s nostalgia, there are lines that place it in contemporary times; at one point, Droog laments, "I checked my Instagram/She unfollowed me the next day." Devoid of any guest features, Your Old Droog LP is an engrossing experience.
