Though the earthquake that ravaged Haiti occurred over four years ago, some of the utter destruction still remains, while the physical and mental fallout may last a lifetime. Music industry power player Karen Civil recently decided the island's cause was still one worth fighting for as she recently donated $41,000 to erect a playground. Civil linked up with the Sow A Seed and Project PlayWorld to build the park dubbed the "Live Civil Playground" which was made out of environmentally sound and recycled materials. There is also an area to hold lectures and plays. “I believe in the power of play," said Civil about her decision to go with a recreational area as a means of helping the people of Haiti. "Unfortunately, Haiti does not have many safe environments for children to play and express themselves. Coming from a Haitian-American home, I thought it was necessary to give back to the country in which my parents were raised. That is why I believe in Project PlayWorld’s efforts to to provide secure playing spaces for the children of Haiti with the Live Civil Playground.”

Salute KC.
