This year, Washington D.C. has seen a handful of young artists starting to turn heads. Fat Trel was signed dropped his impressive MMG debut in April entitled Gleesh. In just one summer Goldlink went from unknown artist to one of the brightest young stars in hip-hop after releasing his debut mixtape The God Complex. Now Shy Glizzy is looking to make the next jump after the release of his hit single "Awesome," which peaked at No. 40 on Billboard's R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay and was remixed by A$AP Rocky and 2 Chainz.  "Awesome" caught the attention of ex-Warner Music colleagues and 300 Entertainment cofounders Lyor Cohen, Todd Moscowitz and Kevin Liles; hip-hop's own version of the former Miami Heat "Big 3" of the previous four years consisting of LeBron James, Dwayne Wade and Chris Bosh. In October when 300 Entertainment—a record label/management team—introduced “It’s A New Day” campaign, an artist they began to focus on was Shy Glizzy.

Since the release of Law 2 in April 2013, Shy momentum has picked up a ton of steam. He followed-up Law 2 with Young Jefe, which is the tape that contained "Awesome," the biggest single in his young career. "Awesome" propelled him from D.C.'s underground scene to new artist to watch. Since then he's moved on from his beefs with Chief Keef and crosstown rival Fat Trel and put his A$AP Mob-styled crew Glizzy Gang and his solo career at the center of his attention. Now gearing up for the third installment of his Law series, Shy held a private listening party last night (Nov. 19) at Engine Room Studio in New York City. Standing in between a plethora of members and associates from Glizzy Gang, DJ Drama and Rowdy Rebel stood Shy, wearing an all black A Bathing Ape jersey and a black and white skullcap. He rapped, word-for-word, every song played from the DJ Drama-hosted mixtape Law 3 while an estimate of 10-20 blunts were being rolled up simultaneously in different pockets of cyphers located in the room. Shy played his 13-track mixtape plus two bonus cuts for the attendees, shouting out verbal footnotes as the songs played. Cohen, Moscowitz, and Liles were all in attendance. Liles during the latter part of the listening made a toast in honor of Shy Glizzy. Law 3 is essentially a 40-minute plus turn-up on wax, boasting loud bass and showing off Shy's distinct style that blends singing and rapping with his unique voice. "Law 3 shows my growth as a rapper," said Shy Glizzy to XXL during CMJ week this year. "I don’t really like maintaining, so on every project I’m going to show you my growth. I’ve been in the studio every day working on Law 3, so I’m on a bigger level and my music is getting bigger and better. It’s going be hosted by DJ Drama, and I got production from Young Chop, Cardo, EA and Zay."

While being served wings and egg rolls with mixed drinks, XXL took some notes on Shy's Law 3. Here’s what you need to know.—Emmanuel C.M.

Pay attention to the intro track "Legends."
Law 3 starts off with Shy Glizzy declaring himself "a fucking legend." The chorus on "Legends" is very catchy. You'll find yourself singing the song unknowingly after a few spins.

"Celebration" will be heard at a lot of parties soon.
When "Celebration" featuring fellow young cohort Bobby Shmurda was released last week fans got to hear a taste of what to expect for Law 3. It's boastful and full of energy, with frightening keys in the background. But the song is far from daunting. Shy and Bobby supply ample amount of excitement that oozes from the record, quickly influencing the room to throw their hands up in the air and pump them with reckless abandon. Basically, it's a song that a lot of people will be getting drunk to soon.

Shy Glizzy stays mostly in house for Law 3 guest appearances.
There isn't a lot of outside features on Law 3. Instead we get a good dose of different members from Glizzy Gang. 30 Glizzy, Goo Glizzy, 3 Glizzy all make appearance on the mixtape. Outside guest appearances were Bobby Shmurda, Young Dolph, Migos and 2 Chainz and A$AP Rocky.

Shy Glizzy states that he wants to be in Rich Gang.
On one of Shy Glizzy's songs, he raps that "he wants to be with Rich Gang." He stated previously with XXL that his biggest moment was meeting Birdman and how he influenced by the Cash Money moguel. "Probably when I met with Birdman," said Shy "Him talking to me every day and giving me advice that makes me want to wake up and do what I have to do every day. That’s motivated me to be where I’m at. He was the reason why I went hard and was in the studio with Boosie the other day, so that made me feel awesome. He tells me to go hard every day and if I wasn’t Glizzy Gang then I would be Rich Gang."

"Thank You" is Shy Glizzy's favorite song.
One of the verbal footnotes that could actually be heard by Shy—the bass was really loud—was that "Thank You," the outro of Law 3, was his favorite song. It's clear to see why. Shy on the songs raps repeatedly "thank you" to all his supporters, fans and haters. Fitting way to end the tape.

Here's the tracklist to Law 3, which drops Dec. 2.
