Today, Logic released his highly anticipated debut album Under Pressure via Def Jam Records. Since making his way on the music scene four years ago with his critically acclaimed mixtape Young, Broke, and Infamous, Logic has been on a mission to get his story heard by the public on his own terms. Now with the help of MTV, Logic was able to illustrate his tragic upbringing with visuals instead of the personal lyrics he laces on every track. The 2013 XXL Freshman, along with his father and godmother, breakdown what it was like to grow up on the mean streets of Gaithersburg, MD.

“One of my earliest memories that I remember of my dad … he took me to D.C. and he picked up some chick, they went into this complex and left me in the car for like six hours. I was like 5 years old,” said Logic. “So, I’m sure they were fooling around and doing drugs and smoking and stuff like that, which was crazy.”

Logic has never held his tongue when it came to the sensitive topics about his family members. Rapping was the only way he felt comfortable enough to express himself. Logic refers to his release of emotions through music as a form of therapy.

“My music is 100 percent a form of therapy. It’s the only thing that allows me to say anything and everything that I want to say,” he explained. “Especially on the album. It wasn’t until the album that I truly mastered the art of therapy I guess, if that makes any sense.”
