How do you throw a party for a new credit card that gets you access to some of the more upper echelon events/venues in New York City?

You rent out a warehouse on the water in Brooklyn. You get a four-hour open bar. You hire fire dancers and DJ Lucia. Oh, and you invite Rick Ross.

For their “End Your Summer Like a Boss” soiree on Friday (Sept. 5), Magnises—a new credit card that targets young entrepreneurs—invited about 200 members to Williamsburg’s Villain 50. Bottles were popped in the upstairs VIP room. Attractive attendees posed for eager photographers and bartenders mixed vodka and tequila drinks for anyone who was feeling thirsty.

Finally, around 11 p.m., there was a rustling in the crowd and iPhones went up into the air as Rick Ross made his way to the stage.

Ross performed a 20-minute set, rapping his verses in “Pop That” and “I’m On One.” The “I’m a Boss” MC brought out “Free Meek Mill” chants from the intimate crowd and his on-stage entourage. A posh white throne sat majestically behind the group, providing the perfect backdrop. All eyes were on Ricky Rozay:

Of course, “Hustlin” got the biggest reaction -- nearly bringing down the VIP section with its bass drop. Ross, who may have a one of the biggest stage presences in the game, worked the room beautifully -- sipping from a bottle of champagne and offering the mic to his fans. And just like that, he was done. The Boss wiped the sweat off his face and exited stage right. But was Magnises finished for the night? Nahhhh.

JA RULE! Yes, the Queens native made a surprise appearance around midnight. He grabbed a microphone and asked the DJ if he had any “Ja” records (who doesn’t?) and busted through “Always on Time,” “Mesmerize” and “New York.” He doled out some pounds to the crowd and puffed on a cigar. It felt like 2002 all over again. It was wonderful.

And that’s what Magnises is about. It’s the high life. It’s the elite. It’s for Bosses. But it’s also for a generation of kids that grew up listening to Ja Rule, and if they want to see him perform, they will. Right now, at this moment, in New York City, they can have it all.-Matt Monagan
