The mystery surrounding Tim Dog's death has finally been solved.

It began when the Bronx bred rapper born Timothy Blair—who is most famous for his 1991 diss track “Fuck Compton”—was exposed as a con artist in 2011 when he defrauded a Mississippi woman named Esther Pilgrim. He plead guilty to grand larceny, was given 5 years probation, and was ordered to pay back Esther Pilgrim the $19,000 he stole from her. Though it seemed as if the story would end there, on Valentine's Day last year, news outlets reported that Tim Dog had died from a diabetes induced seizure.

Doubts began to surface when a memorial service that was planned to be held for him in Harlem, was inexplicably canceled. A PayPal account that was included on the poster for people who wanted to donate to benefit Tim Dog's daughter, was never verified to have actually gone to his daughter. And there was no public record of his death. Rumors began to circulate that Tim Dog faked his own death in order to avoid paying back the $19,000 to Esther Pilgrim. Pilgrim herself was dead set on finding out the truth. A prosecutor in Pilgrim's Mississippi county issued an arrest warrant for Blair, while Blair's wife never did anything to silence the doubters; opting to avoid speaking to the media, and not even doing as much as producing her husband's death certificate. In addition, other rappers who Tim Dog had collaborated with didn't believe he was dead. In fact, several months after his supposed death, there was even a track online entitled “Falsified” that featured Tim Dog himself, further fueling the rumors that he had faked his death.

It wasn't until NBC's Dateline joined forces with the defrauded Esther Pilgrim that clues leading to the real answer regarding Timothy Blair's whereabouts. Residency records led them to a home in Fairburn, Georgia, where neighbors said that they had seen Tim Dog, his wife, and their young daughter living there for 7 months, but left around April of this year, leading them to believe that Tim Dog may still be alive, living a undercover life. They were then led to another house in Decatur, GA, but found no traces of Tim Dog. Finally, with help from a man who claimed that his boss was scammed by Blair, Pilgrim found the pieces to the puzzle to solve the almost year and a half long mystery. They found that Blair had been treated at Atlanta Medical Center, then was discharged to Hospice Atlanta. Though the hospice could not release medical records, Dateline began calling funeral homes in the area to see if anyone had records of Blair's death, until one funeral home confirmed the record of the artist's death.

Timothy Blair died at Hospice Atlanta, Dekalb County, Georgia on Feb. 14, 2013. His death certificate was obtained from the Dekalb County GA Board of Health. No paperwork was filed in the county where many believed Blair was living, because death records are filed in the county of death. No one except close family, friends, and caregivers knew where Tim Dog lived, and died. Tim Dog's cremation was paid by the Dekalb County.

After a year and a half, we can finally say for sure, RIP Tim Dog.
