Earlier this year, legendary hip-hop group Beastie Boys won a $1.7 million lawsuit against Monster Energy Drink for illegally using their music for a promotional video. Now, the popular power drink is being sued by two major companies, Capitol Records and Universal-Polygram International Publishing , for copyright infringement involving several songs from the Beastie Boys.

According to a Yahoo! News report, Capitol Records and Universal-Polygram International Publishing are suing Monster Energy Drink for $1.2 million for illegally using five tracks from the Beastie Boys during a promotional sports video. The video in question promoted an annual snowboarding competition called "Rukus in the Rockies" featuring Z-Trip remixes of the Beastie Boys songs.

After the tragic death of former Beastie Boy Adam Yauch in 2012 , it was revealed through his will that any use of their music through a promotional and/or advertisement setting are strictly prohibited.
