Earlier this month, a brutal video showing a member of the Islamic State in Syria (ISIS) beheading American journalist James Foley surfaced on YouTube. After doing due diligence and research, British officials are claiming that an ex-rapper, who went by the name L Jinny or Lyricist Jinny while in London, is under investigation for the murder of Foley.

The former MC, who's real name is Abdel-Majed Bary, is the 24-year-old son of Adel Abdul Bary, an Egyptian refugee who is believed to be one of Osama Bin Laden's closest aides. According to UK outlet, The Independent, the elder Bary was extradited from Britian to the United States on charges of terrorism in 2012 for his alleged roles in the bombings of two US embassies in east Africa in 1998.

Abdel-Majed Barry ditched a promising music career—his singles earned play on BBC radio in 2012—to move to Syria to fight alongside Islamic militants. According to The Independent, there was a noticeable change in Majed Barry's lyrics after his father was sent to the States. While he previously rapped about smoking weed, his raps became more militant. A few examples:

"I'm trying to change my ways but there's blood on my hands and I can't change my ways until there's funds in the bank."

"Give me the pride and the honour [sic] like my father, I swear the day they came and took my dad, I could have killed a cop or two."

"Imagine I was only six, picture what I'd do now with a loaded stick. Like boom bang fine, I'm wishing you were dead, violate my brothers and I'm filling you with lead."

While British officials are on the hunt for Abdel Barry, the U.S. State Department said U.S. intelligence officials have yet to confirm the killer's identity. "We're not in a position to say exactly who the man in the video is yet, but we are actively working with our British counterparts to determine that every day," Marie Harf, a spokeswoman for the U.S. State Department told USA Today. "There are a variety of ways to do this, and we're putting the full force of our resources behind that effort now."

Abdel Barry was seen on social media earlier this year holding a severed head with the caption, "Chillin' with my homie or what's left of him."
