Music curator, Songza is the latest company to be acquired by Google. The app that provides music based on genre, mood, activities, time of day and weather was purchased for an undisclosed amount after weeks of speculation for a substantially higher amount than the $15 million figure quoted by the New York Post earlier in June.

Songza currently employs 50 music curators who work on the site. Google plans to hire all of it’s staff going forward as it hopes to incorporate Songza’s playlists into its Google Play Music All Access subscription service, enhancing its radio function. The app will also be integrated into paid YouTube service.

“Over the coming months, we’ll explore ways to bring what you love about Songza to Google Play Music,” Google said in a statement announcing the deal. “We'll also look for opportunities to bring their great work to the music experience on YouTube and other Google products.”

Google has no plans to change Songza at the present time but in the future hopes to make it “faster, smarter and even more fun to use.”
