Six days ago out of nowhere Gucci Mane released a diss record towards Game. The incarcerated ATL rapper went at the West Coast MC, rapping, "On Twitter talkin’ bout you wanna scrap, nigga/I’ll knock you out and drag you to the trap, nigga." Initially this diss was as left field as it can be, but with some digging and the help of one of Gucci's main producers the reason can be traced to a tweet Big Guwop sent out in 2012. In November 2012 Gucci Mane sent a a tweet challenging all rappers, friend or foe, to a boxing match, saying, "I'm challenging any rapper friend or foe in the ring to a boxing match. Put your money up. Who got hands no raps. Who wants the challenge." He continued to say "All Deez Pussy ass rappers" and "The proceeds from the ring will go to charities. You scary ass rappers." Never one to back down from a fight, the first rapper to respond was Game.

A year and a half later, Gucci responds to Game on wax. The producer for the track, "The Definition," was Zaytoven. XXL got Zaytoven on the phone to discuss exactly how the record came about and when was it made. —Emmanuel C.M.

Give me the background of this Gucci Mane song.  When did you first make this beat?
Zaytoven: I made that beat probably some months back and that beat is one of those ones where when an artist comes through I give them some beats to take home and record. He must have did that a few months ago.

So a few months ago he had some beef with Game?
Well I think it was because, I remember Gucci was saying something on Twitter about boxing another rapper. Then Game was the guy that responded. I think that’s where it stems from. Some months back. Gucci wasn’t trying to direct it towards Game but Game responded and he probably felt some type of way.

Were you there when he recorded it?
I wasn’t even there when he recorded it. I actually didn’t even know when he was releasing the song. I don’t know what studio he recorded it or none of that.

So this had to come as a shock to you.
I was like, “Aww, for real?” But you know, I’ve been with Gucci his whole career, so it's not really that surprising. I was just like, “Oh, that’s crazy.”

When’s the last time y’all talked?
Two days ago.

How is he? What did you guys talk about?
Man, we talked about everything. He asked me who’s going hard, who’s up next. He talks like he's out. He’s always in good spirits. We just are laughing and joking every time he calls. When he does call me, whatever day he calls me, he may call me 10 times that day and talk throughout the day.

Good to hear he’s doing well. How often do y’all speak?
Like every two days. If I don’t talk to him today, he for sure is calling me tomorrow. Like Zay, what’s up, asking me what’s up with my kids, just regular conversation.

Does he give you a game plan on what he wants you to do?
Yeah he does that, we’re talking about working on a project that’s solely produced by me; a project that him and I are putting out together. He works so hard, so he's got so much music. So while he’s in jail, he’s keeping the torch lit. So we’re going to be releasing different albums and different mixtapes while he’s locked up.

So he has five albums coming out plus the one you and him are working on?
Yessir.

That’s six albums in one year.
He’s a workaholic. When he and I get together, we can really do a project in a day, maybe two days. We work so fast.

Is there a name for it yet?
I’m pretty sure the next couple of days, the more we talk, the more we’re going to come up with the right name for it. It started off like that. His first couple of mixtapes [were] solely produced by me. We’re going back to doing those projects. We just got to come up with the right name.

When is it coming out? This year?
Later on in the year. I’m just going through the features and figuring out who should go on the different songs. We haven’t really got the real date for it yet.

How does Gucci work from jail?
He's got everybody. It’s a lot of guys that’s really waiting for his call to do whatever he says that needs to be done. Some of us, we take it upon ourselves to get certain things done. To make sure he stays poppin'. Anytime he comes up with an idea and wants something done, he’s going to give somebody a call and we’re going to make it happen.
