Sports and music continue to go hand-in-hand. In the latest installment of 'when athletes and beats collide', USA national soccer team captain, Clint Dempsey, is said to be releasing a 13-track rap album using his stage name "Deuce". Apparently, the soccer star who scored against their rival team Ghana after only 31 seconds of play time, started recording the album in L.A. two weeks before the big game.

“We just were having fun with it and it ended up being an album," said Dempsey to The Wall Street Journal.

Dempsey recently expressed his love for Texas Hip Hop duo, UGK, and how certain songs hold a special connection to his life, so the idea of him making a rap album isn't too far fetched. Like other artists, the Seattle Sounders captain raps about his come up story of going from rags to riches. He even references scoring goals aka "banging g's" and being "Captain America" , a play on words of his professional title.

“We’re not known as a soccer powerhouse – we’re almost known for being soft. But Clint has this edge," said friend and fellow rapper Mike Chehadé. "He’ll just call you sometimes and start freestyling – he doesn’t even say hello … I’m not saying he’s Eminem, but he’s definitely qualified.”

The album is called The Redux and will feature Texas rapper XO, who collaborated with Dempsey on their 2006 World Cup track "Don't Tread".

Listen to "It's Poppin," the first single off The Redux by Clint Dempsey and XO vis Wall Street Jornal. It will be available today at 9 p.m. EDT at Deuceandxo.com.
