It’s the moment you all have been waiting for.

In 2008, XXL shifted the hip-hop landscape by co-signing the new breed of rappers on the rise. Dubbed “Leaders Of The New School,” the first group (Lupe Fiasco, Lil Boosie, Joell Ortiz, Plies, Saigon, Rich Boy, Gorilla Zoe, Young Dro, Papoose, and Crooked I) used the moment to shine and further build momentum for their growing careers.

The following years consisted of more research, longer debates and passionate discussions on deciding who should be deemed the next rappers to be hip-hop's breakout stars. Many of our selections have been on point—Kendrick Lamar, YG, Future, Big Sean, Macklemore, to name a few—while others have viewed it as a proper step up the proverbial ladder to the top. Last year, for the sixth anniversary, we tagged the 2013 XXL Freshman class as “Best Ever?” that sparked controversy and became a huge conversation starter.

Now, we’re back to create another Freshman cover moment. On Monday (May 5), the Class of 2014 will be unveiled on BET's 106 & Park live. Get your margaritas ready, it’s about to be a party.
