Maya Angelou passed away this morning at the age of 86 in her home in Winston-Salem, N.C. The cause of death is unknown, but her literary agent Helen Brann says she's been dealing with bad health for some time.  Today, the country loses one of its national treasures. Poet, activist, teacher, novelist, Angelou did it all. Angelou rose to fame in 1969 with her autobiography I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings, which documented her childhood in the Jim Crow South. The rest is history as Maya Angelou would become one of the most influential poets of her generation.
