Pharrell Williams stopped by Jimmy Kimmel Live! last night (May 7). The super producer commended the talk show host for appearing in the “Happy” music video before sharing an interesting story about the late Michael Jackson.

Though Pharrell never worked with icon, he did have a few interesting encounters. The singer-songwriter said the pop star showed interest in working with him after hearing one of the songs he earlier produced.

“We had several meetings. Chad and I, my partner Chad Hugo and I had done these songs, like eight songs for him and his manager heard it,” he said. “This was around the time of like ‘Super Thug,’ Noreaga. Shout out to N.O.R.E.  And his manager was like ‘Man was like this ain’t what Michael wants. He wants that ‘Super Thug.’ I was just kind of like this is clearly not going to happen.”

The designer and author said that he and Chad failed take into account Michael’s vast exposure to various cultures and music when they produced records for him. He would ultimately never get the chance to work with Micheal before he past, but he did get the chance to talk to the legend while working with Justin Timberlake, even though he hanged up on him twice.

In addition to talking about Michael, Pharrell hit the Hollywood streets with Kimmel for a “twofie” photo challenge. He also performed his hit his hit single “Come Get It Bae.”
