Earlier this month, reports came out that the "Trukstop Skatepark" built in New Orleans as part of the now scrapped "DEWeezy" campaign was in danger of being shut down for good due to lack of financial backing. Instead of allowing the park to close, New Orleans residents who run the Lower 9th Ward village are taking matters into their own hands and trying to keep the park open via grassroots campaigning. The park, which was supposed to be a safe haven for at-risk kids, has been unusable since the highly-publicized grand opening back in September of 2012. The goal of the Kickstarter campaign is to raise $75,000 by Tuesday, May 27. As of press time, the campaign has been backed by 343 people for a total of $20,726.
