Why She Is The Best: Iggy will be the first to tell you she has struggled to make the kind of impact she would like. But the Australian born MC has withstood the criticism, and to the contrary of what many have said about a manufactured creation, she is a true student of the game. This is the main reason Nas and T.I. have both co-signed her effort to be the next big star to blow up. Although her debut album The New Classic left more to be desired for some critics, Iggy showed signs of staying power—and chart success—by debuting at No. 3 on the Billboard 200 chart today, the highest-charting album for a female rapper since Nicki Minaj in 2012. Who else is hitting those heights?
Biggie's "Mo' Money, Mo Problems" is a classic. So when Iggy Azalea hopped on Keyshia Cole's "I'm Coming Out"—which shares the same Diana Ross sample as Biggie's track—she knew she had big shoes to fill when remaking the track she told MTV in an interview. No pun intended.
In the interview, she said how she channeled her inner Ma$e and Diddy to carve out her verse for the Diana Ross "I'm Coming Out" sampled track.
"I'm from a generation where I don't think 'I'm Coming Out,'" she said. "I'm thinking 'Mo Money Mo Problems.' I'm 23. That's what I think about. I was like, 'I need to get my Ma$e on, get my Diddy on.' I went with that vibe, so when people heard it, they said, 'She's doing the Biggie remix.'"
Many were baffled by Iggy's decision to take the route of redoing the record, which angered many fans. Despite the criticism, Iggy doesn't appear phased by the comments.
"I really don't care," Azalea says. "Come on, though. I love Biggie forever, and Tupac, but that's a sampled song. So, don't be mad about something that's sampled already. That's not an original thing. So, don't be mad about that."
Iggy Azalea has a lot to celebrate despite all the criticism. She will be featured on J.Lo's new album A.K.A and her single, "Fancy" - from her debut album The New Classic - is still making noise on Billboard.
