On a crisp New York City Monday night (May 20), SOB's was the place to check out some new raw talent in hip-hop. Noisey held the release party for Deniro Farrar's Rebirth EP  (VICE Records/Warner Bros. Records) that dropped on iTunes earlier in the day. The place was buzzing with young talent, including 19-year-old rapper Well$ from Charlotte, N.C. Well$ just released his mixtape MTSYD: The Revenge Of The African Booty Scratcher yesterday, and he took the stage for his first show in NYC and was joined by a saxophonist and a drummer. "That shit was fun. New York shows love," said the Charlotte native. "I love it out here. Butterflies before but getting on stage and seeing my homies here, it just came natural." Next up were Chelsea Reject and T'nah Apex who put on an energetic and enthralling show. Chelsea Reject also brought out Atownomas to perform the weed  anthem "So High."

But the star of the night was undoubtedly Deniro Farrar. Farrar's passion bleeds from his lyrics, as it does on his song "My Life": "Dead broke and I feel ashamed/In the couch tryna find change/Late night hunger pains/Can’t sleep thoughts like a gun range.” Farrar truly believes what's missing in hip-hop today is honesty. He rattled off hits throughout the night like "So Many Days," "Free Tune," "So Many Days," "Big Tookie," "The Calling," "Feels Right" and  "Just In Case The World Ends." Farrar brought out indie duo Child Actor and fellow WTG member DuRu Tha King to perform hits including  "Croisade,"  "Death Or Forever" and "Social Status." Farrar also performed cuts off of Rebirth—his first project since signing his record deal with Vice/Warner Bros. Records—like "Late Night" and "Bow Down."

After thanking the crowd and ending the show with "You Ain't A G," Farrar took a photo with the crowd in his patent Cult Rap pose. As a fresh face in hip-hop Farrar's main goal is to make new fans wherever he performs. Farrar told XXL, "It was crazy man. I enjoy performing my music because I know that it's people out there that's not familiar with me. For any first-time listener, either you love it or you don't. I love getting first-time fans out of the crowd when I perform. That's what I go into this with, the mind state of making somebody leave and say they are a fan of me and [they] didn't know who I was." Farrar accomplished that goal that night. Free Tune.
