Even in the midst of battle 50 Cent is still a music fan.

In 2007 Kanye West's Graduation and 50's Curtis dropped on the same day with Kanye coming out on top by a landslide in the first week numbers. In a piece for GQ, the Queens native who is dropping his first album in nearly five years, spoke on how even though he was in competition with Yeezy, 50 Cent was still a fan of West's Graduation. 50 told GQ, "I listened to that shit a million times."

Shortly after the battle Kanye and Drake dominated the charts and his album Before I Self Destruct did less than stellar business by 50 Cent standards. It was also during that around time that he saw a change in the music buying audience. "I even saw when keeping it real—like, that concept or that phrase 'keeping it real'—went out of style. Now it's like, it doesn't matter what it is, it just matters that it sounds good." he explained.

That changing climate didn't seem to change for him though. When he tried to expand or change his approach he felt the push back of the fans who had a taste of his aggressive content.

"'Oh, no, no,' " 50 says " 'not you! We need you to be what we need you to be. But everybody else can.'"

50 also spoke on his relationship with his son. Rumors recently circulated that 50 had missed his son's high school graduation. During a visit to 106 & Park he explained that was a by-product of his relationship with his son's mother. In the GQ piece he explained further.

"Me and my son, we don't have a relationship anymore," 50 said, "It's based on his mom. He's adopted her way of thinking."
