A hit song by Kendrick Lamar has come up in the South African murder trial of Olympian Oscar Pistorius. Pistorius faces charges for the February 14, 2013 death of his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp. Pistorius, 27,  maintains that he killed Steenkamp , 29, accidently while mistaking her for an intruder.

Associated Press reports that prosecutors questioned Pistorius about whether an argument with Steenkeamp was provoked by Lamar’s “B***h, Don’t Kill My Vibe.” A conversation between the couple on the messaging app WhatsApp was entered into evidence that referenced the song.

Steenkamp’s message on the app read “I’m scared of you sometimes and how u snap at me and how of you will react to me. You make me happy 90% of the time and I think we are amazing together but I am not some other b***h you may know trying to kill your vibe.”

Pistorius answered, “I was upset that you just left me after we got food to go talk to a guy and I was standing right behind you watching you touch his arm and ignore me. And when I spoke up you introduced me which you could’ve done but when I left you just kept on chatting to him when clearly I was upset. I asked Martin to put on that Kendrick Lamar album in the car and don’t know it… Granted that it was a s**t song but you should’ve just lent forward and whispered in my ear to change it seeing as I had to drive to pick up your friend.”

Asked by the prosecution if the song was 'Bitch, Don't Kill My Vibe' Pistorius said he couldn’t remember the specific song. The prosecutor asked if the name of the song was "Bitch, Don't Kill My Vibe," but said he couldn't remember the specific song. Chief prosecutor Gerrie Nel then replied that Steenkamp would have been right to take offense, but "we can't ask her."—G. Valentino Ball
