Kanye West and Rick Rubin have teamed up for a unique project to be shown at the Tribeca Disruptive Innovation Awards. The pair has joined forces to create a thank-you video to show their appreciation for receiving the Roland 808s honor for their contributions to hip-hop.

The honor recognizes the use of the 808 Drum Machine, which both producers have used from time to time on various projects, such as Rubin’s music for the Beastie Boys and West’s album “808’s & Heartbreak.”

In the comedic video that replaces voices with music and distinct sounds Rubin says, "Kanye and I would like to give thanks on behalf of the Roland TR-808 drum machine. It continues to be responsible for new music some thirty years after its release and discontinuation."

Their thank-you video constructed with the help of producer Mark Romanek will premiere at ceremony held April 25 at the NYU Skirball Center for Performing Arts.—Chris M. Garner
