The Driver Involved In The Fatal SXSW Crash Receives More Charges
The suspect in last month’s fatal car crash at SXSW is facing 20 new assault charges according to the Austin American-Statesman. Driver, Rashad Owens was initially charged with capital murder after the crash March 13, but is now facing 20 additional counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
Each count of assault holds a prison sentence of up to 20 years and is connected to each victim either killed or injured in the crash. The Statesman states that in addition to $3 million bail for the capital murder charge, bail has been set at $100,000 for each new charge. Owens is accused of driving a stolen car, driving drunk, fleeing police and injuring 17 people and killing four.
Those killed as a result of the fatal crash were Steven Craenmehr, 35, Jamie Ranae West, 27, Sandy Le, 26, and DeAndre Tatum, 18.—Christina Garner
