While en route to his mother’s funeral in Massachusetts, rapper and reality television personality Benzino was allegedly shot by his nephew, Gai Scott. After spending two days in the South Shore Hospital in Weymouth, Massachusetts, Benzino was released on March 31st.

As the days go by, the story becomes stranger and stranger. According to Gai Scott’s lawyer, Scott is claiming self-defense and was quoted in the police report as saying, “I shot at him; I was in fear for my wife and a baby. [Benzino]’s been threatening my life.”

Scott’s lawyer entered a plea of not guilty on his behalf Monday to a charge of armed assault with intent to murder. Scott told police that Benzino had been sending life-threatening text messages to him in the week leading up to the shooting.

Gai Scott’s mother, Maureen Scott, who is Benzino’s sister, also released the following statement via her attorney:  “My client and his family, including Maureen [Scott] vehemently deny any accusations that Benzino is making,’’ Christopher B. Coughlin, Maureen Scott’s attorney, said today. “I would suggest that he [the uncle] has an agenda in utilizing and self-promoting at this time.’’

Now that Benzino is out of the hospital, more news is expected to be released.—Peter Walsh
