Sylvia Rhone Named New President Of Epic Records

Sylvia Rhone, the longtime label executive who headed up Elektra Entertainment Group, then Universal Motown for nearly two decades, has been named the new President of L.A. Reid’s Epic Records, according to Billboard. Rhone, who got her start in the music business in the mid-1980s by making Atlantic Records one of the leading destinations for hip-hop and R&B artists like MC Lyte, The D.O.C. and Brandy, has been at Epic since 2012, when she started her own label, Vested In Culture, with a distribution deal with Epic.

Epic’s roster includes OutKast, Future, Ciara, Casey Veggies, Cashius Green, King Louie, Travi$ Scott, Yo Gotti and Prince, to name a few.

“I’m honored to have the opportunity to expand my relationship with the talented team and amazing artists at Epic,” Rhone said in a statement. “What makes this opportunity different from any other is my partnership with renowned music executive L.A. Reid. I’m looking forward to what I think will be the finest chapter in my career.”

Reid, Epic’s chairman and CEO, got his start with LaFace Records in the late 1980s and early 1990s, which helped launch the careers of OutKast, Goodie Mob, Usher and a host of others. “Having worked closely with Sylvia Rhone, I’ve witnessed firsthand how she shares a passion for an artists-first culture,” Reid said in a statement. “I look forward with genuine enthusiasm to the next chapter of Epic Records.”
