Pharrell Bought His Infamous Grammy Hat Five Years Ago

After a couple weeks removed from The Grammys, Pharrell finally explains the inspirations for his hat. He says that there wasn’t one and he bought the hat five years ago and just happened to wear it tonight. “If I knew what it was going to do, you just never know with things, it was pure instinct.” Pharrell’s Hat was the talk of The Grammys, sparking the creation of the hat’s own Twitter account and searches for the producer/rapper increased by 5000%.

The Hat is a Viviene Westwood hat that was inspired by Malcolm McLaren’s 1982 “Buffalo Gals” video. Which you can buy here.

If anyone’s wondering why he wore this dumb hat like I was, the answer’s found here: “searches for the producer/rapper increased by 5000%”. Fortunately for Pharrell, at the time of this search surge, Google was plastered with news about his upcoming album (the release date, name and cover of which were released on the same day).

This hat isn’t a fashion statement, it’s a way of gaining attention; a publicity stunt. No disrespect to Pharrell though, I love him, his music and (usually) his fashion.
