The first month of 2014 is behind us. As such, it was jam-packed with promising news for the year ahead. In the beginning weeks, DJ Drama was appointed A&R of Atlantic and shared with us during our interview three MCs he’s feeling right now. We also heard the big news that OutKast is reuniting for the first time at Coachella and are planning to go on a nationwide tour. To top January off, the Grammys featured a heavy favorite as Macklemore took home four awards that caused some controversy and sparked deep discussion on the climate of hip-hop.

While those were the big news stories, this month featured a wide range of new music. We want to keep you up-to-speed, so we’ve gathered our favorite songs from January. In our monthly column In The Cut, we attempt to give you the best playlists on the most current hip-hop joints.
