Today, Feb. 7, is the 52nd birthday of famed DJ and rapper, Kid Capri!

Born in 1976 and raised in the Bronx, Capri, whose real name David Anthony Love, Jr., began his DJ career at the age of eight and really began earning attention when he was spinning records at the famous Midtown Manhattan nightclub, Studio 54. After rocking the party, he would also release mixtapes of the sets he spun at the legendary club, which in turn, earned him a large nightlife following.

In 1991, Kid Capri made hip-hop history by becoming the first DJ to sign a record deal when he dropped his debut solo album, called The Tape, under Cold Chillin Records. Yup, that means DJs who are known for their studio albums like Khaled, Clue and Funk Flex have Kid Capri to thank to forging the path.

Throughout his career, Capri has gone on to produce records for a number of hip-hop legends and was the official DJ for Russell Simmons' Def Comedy Jam. Over the years, Capri has been linked to major New York hip-hop acts like Big L, Jay-Z, DJ AM, Nas, KRS-One, Big Pun and more. Of course, no rap fan could forget Kid Capri being immortalized in hip-hop forever thanks to a name drop in The Notorious B.I.G's smash hit single "Juicy."

"Peace to Ron G, Brucey B, Kid Capri/Funkmaster Flex, Lovebug Starski (what's up!)," spits Big in the first verse.

In 2017, Kid Capri's voice could be all over Kendrick Lamar's critically-acclaimed 2017 album, DAMN., playing host on tracks like "ELEMENT." According to Capri, there may be much more material between him and the Compton rapper coming out in the future.

Most recently, Capri a star-studded lineup full of hip-hop legends with the Yo! MTV Raps: 30th Anniversary Experience.

Happy Birthday, Kid Capri!
