Today, Feb. 18, two titans of hip-hop celebrate their birthdays. Dipset mainstay Juelz Santana is 36 and rap mogul Dr. Dre is 53.

Andre Young, better known as Dr. Dre, shot to fame in the early days of West Coast gangsta rap with his group, N.W.A, but his debut solo album, The Chronic, has been heralded by the hip-hop community as a culture-defining phenomenon in 1992. The Chronic spawned hit singles "Aint Nuthin But a G Thang" and "Let Me Ride," the second of which earned the Compton rapper a Grammy in 1994 for Best Rap Solo Performance.

After switching gears from MC to mogul, Dre co-founded Death Row Records in 1991 and later went on to found Aftermath Entertainment in 1996 where he's overseen the careers of Eminem, 50 Cent and Kendrick Lamar. Dre's latest power play was selling his designer audio company, Beats Electronics, to Apple in 2014 for $3 billion. And in 2015, Dre rode high off having the highest-grossing rap biopic of all time when Straight Outta Compton, the story of N.W.A, came out in theaters that August. In 2017, he released the Grammy award-winning documentary, The Defiant Ones, which details the personal lives and careers of The Doctor and his Beats partner, music legend Jimmy Iovine. He also shared that his oft-delayed Detox album may see the light of day.

Although he started his career as part of the New York hip-hop group The Diplomats, Juelz Santana has held his own as a steady solo artist in hip-hop for years.

Born LaRon Louis James, Santana started rapping at a young age in his Harlem neighborhood. Juelz appeared on fellow Harlemite Cam'ron's album, S.D.E at the age of 18 and subsequently signed with The Diplomats. Juelz has appeared on two Diplomat albums as well as released two solo albums, 2003's From Me to U and 2005's What the Game's Been Missing. It was on What the Game's Been Missing that mainstream America was really introduced to Juelz's style thanks to his highest charting solo single, "There It Go (The Whistle Song)." To date, Santana has collaborated with some of hip-hop's biggest names from Chris Brown to Rick Ross and released his last mixtape, God Will'n, in 2013 and has been working on his third solo LP, Born to Lose, Built to Win. In 2016 and onward, he made appearances on Love & Hip Hop: New York. He will also be involved in a forthcoming Dipset documentary and EP.

Happy Birthday, Juelz and Dre!
