Is Eminem The Most Successful Rapper Of All Time?

eminem 11

With the chart-topping debut of The Marshall Mathers LP 2, Eminem has now sold close to 50 million albums in the United States. Not counting his indie debut, Infinite, it’s taken him eight albums to do this, which gives him an average of about 6.25 million copies sold per record. XXL was curious to see how other big-name rappers compare to these numbers — how many total units have they sold in the U.S.? And how many albums has it taken them to get there? Not having the convenience of a Soundscan account, we did our best to compile some data. Check it below:

  • Slim Joe

    definitely

  • TruthSerum

You counting that Jay-Z album as double platinum when Samsung bought a million of them up front is a laughable joke. That album sold a million copies to actual human beings.

    • YungSauce

A sale is a sale. Jay bought 100 copies of Nipsey’s new tape. All of those count. Should we not count the sale of computers when corporations order them in bulk? Same concept. If it were not for the amount of piracy that occurs nowadays, albums would still sell like they did 20 years ago. That number would be twice as big if everyone who pirated the album paid for it. Samsung Galaxy owners still downloaded/listened to the album as well. They are actual human beings.
Side note: By saying something is a “joke” you are already implying that it is laughable. You don’t need “laughable” in front of it.
