What is it about hip-hop mixtape cover art and horror iconography that goes so well together? The spectre of violence has always seemed to capture the imagination of hip-hop but when it comes to the art on your favorite rapper's mixtape, violence is pushed to it's logical and extremely gory extreme. On the cover of a mixtape, rappers become horror movie monsters, stalking their prey with a slasher's tactical precision and relentless bent.

In celebration of Halloween tomorrow, XXL is looking at 25 of the scariest mixtape covers that seem to be derived from the deep dark recesses of a nightmare.
