Is DJ Quik Calling It Quits?

Compton rapper/producer DJ Quik made a surprise announcement today that he was selling of all his production equipment and would not remix or engineer material going forward. If the legendary Cali artist is planning to formally retire from music, it would be a huge blow to L.A. hip-hop scene of which Quik has been a major fixture since his 1991 debut album, Quik Is The Name. His last solo album, The Book Of David, the eighth of his career, came out in 2011 and was one of the most critically-acclaimed albums of his career.

XXL reached out to a representative of Quik’s for confirmation that the Compton rapper was retiring but as of press time, they have not responded.

    Maybe he needs money.

I don’t think he is broke, he got tracks with Ludacris, 2pac, Whitney Houston and Nate Dogg. I really hope he re-considers this. Maybe he is just too hurt that he got his rare equipment stolen recently

Quik has been one of the most underrated producers in the game, just as technically proficient as Dr. Dre, but never got his true shine. The game will sorely be lacking if he calls it a career

hmm, could just be another twitter stunt.

maybe he is just tired of the game,
