The Best Macklemore & Ryan Lewis Moments Of The Year

Today marks the one-year anniversary of Macklemore and Ryan Lewis' The Heist, independent hip-hop's unexpected smash hit album of the year. In the year since the album's release, Ryan and Mack have accomplished A LOT of things that most industry insiders did not expect a group with a self-released album to do. They have won awards, collected platinum and gold plaques and appeared on more television shows than you can possibly count.

XXL is looking back at the events that have occurred since the release of The Heist on October 9, one year ago. Here are the some of the best moments with Macklemore and Ryan Lewis over the last year.

October 9, 2012 - Macklemore & Ryan Lewis release their debut album, The Heist. The album sold 78,000 copies in its first week and debuted at No. 2 on the US Billboard 200 chart.

October 30, 2012 - Macklemore and Ryan Lewis were invited to perform "Same Love" on The Ellen Show. Due to their stance on marriage equality, host Ellen DeGeneres calls the duo "my new heroes" before they perform.

December 12, 2012 - Macklemore and Ryan Lewis appear on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon. The duo perform "Thrift Shop" with singer Wanz.

January 3, 2013 - "Thrift Shop" goes platinum after selling 304,000 digital copies in the week prior. The song would eventually certified seven-times platinum in the upcoming months.

January 24, 2013 - Three weeks after going platinum, "Thrift Shop" hits No. 1  on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The single would go on top the chart for six non-consecutive weeks.

March 1, 2013 - During an appearance on NBC's Saturday Night Live, Macklemore and Ryan Lewis perform "Thrift Shop" and "Can't Hold Us."

March 17, 2013 - Macklemore and Lewis are honored with the "Branching Out" Woodie at the mtvU Woodie Awards. The group also performs "Can't Hold Us" during the ceremony, too.

April 25, 2013 - "Can't Hold Us" is certified platinum by the RIAA. It is the second single from The Heist to achieve platinum status.

May 2, 2013 - Macklemore & Ryan Lewis appear on Comedy Central's The Colbert Report.

June 22, 2013 - Macklemore and Ryan Lewis  announce they will be going on a tour of U.S. arenas starting on October 22.

June 30, 2013 - Macklemore & Ryan Lewis wins Best Group at the 2013 BET Awards.

August 16, 2013 - Macklemore appears on the cover of Rolling Stone.

August 22, 2013 - Macklemore sits down with Elliott Wilson for his CRWN Series where he candidly discusses white privilege and the benefits of being a white rapper in hip-hop.

August 26, 2013 - Macklemore & Ryan Lewis Performs "Same Love" At MTV's Video Music Awards. The duo would also take home the award for Best Hip-Hop Video for "Can't Hold Us." The video would also take home an award for Best Cinematography, too.

August 27, 2013 - Macklemore & Ryan Lewis performs "White Walls" with Schoolboy Q On The Tonight Show With Jay Leno.

August 28, 2013 - Macklemore & Ryan Lewis' The Heist is officially certified platinum after selling one million albums by the RIAA.

September 24, 2013 - Macklemore and Ryan Lewis land at No. 14 on Forbes' annual Hip-Hop Cash Kings list after reportedly raking in $9 million dollars in the last year.
