The Case: On July 18, 2002, Baton Rouge rapper Mystikal and two of his bodyguards, Leland Ellis and Vercy Carter, were slapped with charges of aggravated rape and extortion. The charges stemmed from a July 3, 2002, incident where Mystikal and the two other men allegedly forced a female hairstylist to perform oral sex on them and accused her of stealing $80,000 in checks from the rapper. A videotape of the incident was later found at Mystikal’s home shortly after the charges were made.
The Aftermath: Mystikal plead guilty to sexual battery and extortion charges on June 26, 2003. On January 15, 2004, Mystikal was sentenced to six years in state prison for his crimes. After serving four years in prison, he was released on January 14, 2010. Mystikal’s two guards, Ellis and Carter, also plead guilty to sexual battery in the case.
