It has been a busy summer this year. As the summer commenced, hip-hop was blessed with two major releases from two of the biggest stars in all of music. Kanye West and Jay Z both released two anticipated solo albums after their group album, Watch The Throne, conquered the world two years ago. Both quickly achieved freshly-minted gold plaques while Jay Z's latest opus landed at double platinum after two months.

You'd figure two of the biggest artists in music history releasing two major albums would have been the biggest story of the summer but a little kid named Kendrick Lamar challenged The Throne for the biggest story of the summer. Kendrick's verse on Big Sean's "Control" was the talk of the town after it's release in mid-August, dominating headlines for weeks.

Of course, there were other moments that made headlines this season. Kanye had a kid, Meek Mill was forced to take etiquette classes, 2 Chainz was arrested on serious drug and gun charges and Drake unexpectedly brought out potential rival, Kanye, at OVO Fest this year. Meanwhile, Eminem announced that he was releasing his first new album in early November.
