On this day, September 4, in hip-hop history...

1996:  Only a few short days before he was fatally gunned down on the Las Vegas Strip, Tupac Shakur made his last public appearance on television at the MTV Video Music Awards on September 4, 1996. Attending the award ceremony at Radio City Music Hall in New York City, 'Pac stepped on stage with fellow Death Row cohort, Snoop Dogg, to present the award for Best Hard Rock Video that night.

A few years later, one of 'Pac's rivals, Nas, claimed that after the night's event, Tupac and himself would run into each other in New York's Bryant Park where they would squash the beef they were having at the time. Although the beef was squashed, this would remain to be Pac's final public appearance as he would be shot in a drive-by shooting three days later on September 7 before succumbing to his injuries and passing away on September 13.
