Lil Twist’s New Song Started As Justin Bieber & Miley Cyrus Duet

2011 XXL Freshman Lil Twist spoke with MTV’s RapFix Live this week to discuss the origins of his new song, “Twerk.” According to Lil Twist, the new song that features Miley Cyrus and Justin Bieber was initially intended as a duet between the duo before Twist took the song over for himself.

“When it started off, it was Justin’s record,” Twist told MTV News this week. “Justin and Miley, they went into the studio… Me and Justin had a conversation and he felt like I should have the record. Felt like we should do it right then and once it leaked like I was just as surprised as everybody else. The shit was pretty wild so it took off so I’m just enjoying it right now, I guess.”

According to Twist, a dinner with Justin Bieber at popular Japanese restaurant, Nobu, was when Justin told Twist that the record would be better served with him.  “He was doing ‘Twerk’ for ‘Journals’ with him and Miley and then once me and him had a conversation over dinner it was like, ‘Yo bro, I think this should be your single and we should go with it’,” Twist explained.
